It is definitely true that laughter is the best medicine. There is nothing better to lift up your mood, make your day or simply enjoy the moment with a great comedy film that keeps you involved with the story and also has you in fits of laughter. There are several artists and filmmakers who are known to be the rulers of this genre and here, in our list of best binge worthy comedy films, we’ve tried to include them all.

1. Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)

Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a gut busting, hilarious cult classic that is sure to leave you in fits of laughter, which is based on the Arthurian legend. In this film, King Arthur, played by Graham Chapman and his Knights of Round Table set out on a search for the Holy Grail, which seems like a surreal idea. It is a comic amp up of the dark conditions in the Middle Ages as narrated through the tale of King Arthur. They encounter many, hilarious obstacles on their way to fulfil their journey for the search of the Grail.

2. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (2010)

This fast and inventive film, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is an adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Oni Press comic book of the same name. It follows the journey of a slacker who is set on a quest to defeat seven ex boyfriends of his dream girl, in order to win her heart and finally have a life with her, the one he has always wished for.

3. Tootsie (1982)

The entire premise of Tootsie is based on its promise to provide an unpredictable laugh out loud comedy and it definitely does not disappointment the critics as well as the viewers. The story is about a supremely talented New York based actor who has driven away opportunities from producers because of stubborn nature and unstable temperament. To earn the required money, he decides to take up a role for a lifetime that leads to hilarious consequences.

4. Get Smart (2008)

Starring widely loved and celebrated comedy actors Steve Carell, Anne Hathway and Dwayne Johnson, Get Smart is a critically acclaimed action comedy. It is an adaptation of the popular 60’s comedy series by Mel Brooks in which Maxwell Smart, a rising spy is teamed with Agent 99 by the Chief of the U.S. spy agency control and is forced to face the evil terrorist from KAOS, who are on a diabolical mission to wipe out every man, woman and child from the planet.

5. The Little Rascals (1994)

The original movie of the series The Little Rascals is a movie featuring the fun filled pranks and antics of a group of small children. Following the lives of Spanky, Alfalfa and the gang, in this movie, Alfalfa attempts to woo Darla, his dream girl while unknown to the fact that his woman hating friends are trying to sabotage his relationship.

6. 21 Jump Street (2012)

This 2012 movie was an action comedy starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, where the duo wishes to leave their adolescent problems way behind and join the police force. Using their youthful appearances, they go undercover for the Jump Street police at a local high school in order to investigate a heavily active drug ring and surprisingly, they circle back to the issues which they thought they had left behind.

7. Some Like It Hot (1959)

After having witnessed the major St. Valentine Day murder, two musicians, Joe, a slick saxophone player and his buddy Jerry, a struggling artist, plan to hide from the mob and escape from Chicago and leave behind their lives. With the mob of mafia gangsters tracking them down, they decide to go under disguise as women and they join an all- women jazz band and set their journey to Florida with the group. Joe, fully in awe of the lead singer, Sugar, further conceals his real identity to pursue her while Jerry, catches the eye of a wealthy suitor.

8. The 40 Year old Virgin (2005)

Steve Carell’s The 40 Year old Virgin is a realistically funny comedy film which managed to connect really well with adult audiences all over. It is the story of Andy, a joyful geeky guy, reaching middle age and his massive collection of comic books, collectibles, action figures and other merchandise models. Sufficiently happy with his life Andy is a virgin and on disclosing this fact to his friends, he left them utterly shocked and disturbed, although they should’ve guessed it by his unparalleled nervousness around women. His friends make it their mission to find a suitable partner and set him up.

9. Sideways (2004)

Sideways is a charming and thoughtful comedy about two friends Jack and Miles and their life slowly drudging into a mid life crisis. While on a road trip for wine tasting, they salute Jack’s last days as a bachelor, showcasing their history of failed potential and their fading youths.

10. The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)

This thoughtfully creative film by Wes Anderson is a kind of memoir for the comic adventures of a well known concierge at a popular European hotel in between the wars going on, Gustave H and his befriended ally, Zero Moustafa, who also goes ahead to become his most trusted friend. With stylish and ornate visuals, the story is about the theft and the following recovery of an invaluable, priceless Renaissance painting and an ongoing tussle for a huge family wealth and inheritance, all based against the back drop of a continent changing dramatically with time and circumstance.
